Whispered Dreams

So many times she ached to feel
a love of tenderness,
and yearned a touch of someone real
to fill the emptiness.

And nothing that she ever did,
and no one that she found
could ever touch the place she hid
or break the silent sound.

And then it seemed one sparkling night
heard her life-long prayer,
and 'neath the clouds of dark'ning light
she saw him standing there.

He took from sky the diamond stars,
a crown upon her hair,
and gently opened prison bars
to free his Lady fair.

He succored her from loneliness,
and gave her raiment of
the power of his tenderness,
and cradled her in love.

He was the strength within her mind,
an oak to shelter 'neath,
a gift she'd never hoped to find ,
and one she couldn't keep.

Though she believes to him she's bound,
he cannot fill her soul,
she'll never know if love was found,
another makes him whole.

Now all she has within her sleep,
a hope that once did gleam,
an empty heart that quiet weeps,
and shadowed whispered dreams. ©
